Pensando a Giordano BrunoPerformance by Paola Saffioti - Ficogrande/Stromboli 18.III. 2005
Giving birth, coming into the world, giving life as a present, seeing the light of the world - all synonyms. The expression "seeing the light of the world" is associated with fire, a flame which lights the darkness, gives life to shadow.
For Giordano Bruno this flame was an inner fire, the holy power of truth, without any limits, with endless possibilities to become real. Giordano Bruno believed in the rigth of freedom of thoughts. Therefore in 1600 the catholic church sentenced him to death by fire, a church, which doesn't tolerate criticism, but wants to complete obeydiance.
Una Chimera viene alla luce dal fuocoInstallation by Paola Saffioti - Ficogrande/Stromboli 18.III. 2005
The Chimara emerges through the fire into the light, manifests in an "eruption of art", in which the individual freedom reflects and celebrates. 400 years later the spiritual freedom is still important to assume a position of opposition through the manipulation of media and politics. The Chimara symbolizes the dreaming of humankind inventing creative freedom repeatedly.
