IMPULSE

Since more than 25 years I practice to express myself in a language which is international, which almost all people speak or had spoken or should learn to speak again. It is the language of art. But, until today I did not find any place on Stromboli at all, where the language of art is represented in the public.

I know, that there are many people on Stromboli, who express themselves in the language of art - as well as always some participants of the Feuersalon do. So why donīt we meet with eachother at the next Feuersalon in march 2005 on Stromboli? Why donīt we let our artwork then speak with eachother or against eachother, publicly and in public spaces, and therefore bring other people in speaking. That they speak out if the artwork speaks to them equally if it is positive or negative. According to other languages the language of art has the big advantage not to have any rules at all. Of course there are people speaking about rules in the language of art, but exactly there is the beginning of the language of business, which people need to speak when they deal with artworks. This is legitimate for itself but it is not the primary criteria for art. The language of art is not measurable like the value of a banana. The language of art can not decay like a banana. The language of art is always a living, an ever cultural supporting one. 5000 years ago the language of art has been different from today but, artworks of that age still speaks to us. The language of art has been always changing and must renew itself - daily. That is the only rule I do accept.

The volcano Stromboli is also a piece of work which is renewing itself permanently, since 2000 years speaking both, visually and hearable in smoke signals, in lava fountains and in thundersounds - and exactly therefore the volcano is creating to me a metaphor for art. As it is not important to the volcano what it speaks by itself but, for all Strombolians it is very important that it speaks. The less it speaks the more people's situation become dangerous. As it is the same in the arts. The less people do art, are interested in the arts, cultivate the language of art, the more dangerous our existence will become for all of us. To protect those kind of developments, we all together have to propagate the language of art like all volcanos of the world use their activities to enriche our planet and our culture.
