eruzione d'arte a Stromboli - temporary works 18 III 05
LAUFFEUER © KAIN KARAWAHN 2005Within the exhibition program of eruzione d'arte a Stromboli at the evening of 18.III.2005 a lot of spectators came together again on the beach of Ficogrande to experience five more performances to the theme Synthesis of Human and Volcano and Art. The documentation of performances is impossible. As a attempt it is allowed to medialized the artistic intension. As a fragment only which depends on the authors selection out of both, available and accessable visual and written information.

For example who can see on the pictures of the temporary installation of Kain Karawahn, that toilet paper was used as matter to burn? The icon of the fleeing man, a sign which doesn't exist on STROMBOLI before 2003 publicly, was pointed with 80 toilet paper rolls metre by metre on black sand (square of 25 x 25 metres). Together with the vanishing of the sun the fleeing man was let to evaporate flickeringly exactly in an area, which was vandalized massively by the Tsunami on 30.XII.2002.

This was followed by the staged hommage from the painter Paola Saffioti for Giordano Bruno, an italian monk and philosopher, who had been burnt on a stake by the inquisition in the 16. century among other things for spreading out his conviction about the infinity of the universe. To let erupt directly at the seaside of an active volcano again a burning mountain of wood - the burning of huge stakes is a volcanic spectacle of course - as a metaphore of sparkling freedom of thoughts, was more than that a shining testimony of Bruno's, for that former view of the world provocative, heretic thesis. For it was Giordano Bruno, who as the very first published, that cause of the mainly closeness of volcanos to the sea their activity is probably the result from a reaction between sea water and hot inside of the earth. And his 500 year old realization confirms still today as a constant factor of the strombolian volcano type, because it's steaming every day out of his crater, visible far off.

In this crackling atmosphere the dancer Kathrin Schumann and the opera performer Janna Waechter let their thoughts run free and improved visually and acousticly the last sunset glow in such a compelling manner, that the performance of the artist Eva Woelfle must follow on those tracks immediately in which she argued with hottest undressing qualities of her volcano.

The spiritual closure of the day concentrated chemo-acoustic artist Bastiaan Maris, who let escape in big bellied glass bottles by quick inflamation of the dregs some gas eruptions, fast living and illustrious. "The direction of the spirit is like the one of the fire. It performs in the ascent." (Claude de Saint-Martin)

The dramaturgy of the images follows approximately the chronicle of the occurencies. At this point we would like to thank all the people, who offered their photos for this documentation. Without their efforts, nothing, but a black hole could be published here.
